>>> Limitations of Conventional Training
With conventional training people are taken out
of the workplace for extended periods at significant cost. They need to be
trained, yet training in the workplace is seen to disrupt operations. They are
saturated with information as this method is considered 'the right thing to do'
and offers a measure of value for money.
For most organisations, training is a major investment and like all investments
should be subject to rigorous analysis to ensure money, time and effort is well
spent. In the case of training however, analysis is rarely undertaken. Even
worse organisations continue to buy training accepting there may be little or
no return on their investment.
People are rarely questioned about what they have learned and the relevance to
their workplace activities. Even less frequently is any of it ever applied. Yet
for training to be effective it must be applied in the work place and the
effect measured. For it is only then that the value be assessed.
